The Learning Consortium continues to enjoy a very close and productive working relationship with Lancashire Adult Learning (LAL), the adult education arm of Lancashire County Council (LCC). LAL was instrumental in establishing the Consortium for the Government's Learning and Skills Council (LSC) back in 2007 and we have subsequently collaborated on a number of initiatives, including the distribution of around £600,000 to voluntary sector learning providers working with disadvantaged adults.
Since Spring 2010, the Learning Consortium has been represented on the LAL Strategic Board, working alongside County Councillors, senior managers and the private sector to help shape the priorities and strategic direction of the service.
Whilst like most public services, LAL is facing a net reduction in public funding over the coming years, there are important opportunities to explore how the service can continue to be responsive to the needs of adult learners across the Lancashire area whilst, at the same time, working more with community and voluntary sector organisations as suppliers and providers. We look forward to being a key stakeholder in delivering this renewed vision.
